Profile

Protection across the humanitarian and human rights system in policy and practice

Themba approaches each Marram assignment with a critical appraisal of expertise needs. Colleagues from a wide global network may be called upon to focus on specific aspects of policy or approach, or to add experience of a particular country or region.

His core expertise is protection, in humanitarian, human rights and operational settings, across strategy, research and evaluation. It centres on refugee protection and forced migration and extends to climate-related displacement, immigration detention and labour migration.

He has worked directly with the international protection framework, including the Universal Periodic Review, UN treaty bodies and Special Procedures, and has worked with UNHCR, OHCHR, UN Women, national human rights institutions, and donor and academic institutions.
